So, here are ten dogs that might look rough around the edges, but are big softies who just want your love and affection.

1. Rottweiler

When raised with proper socialization and training, Rottweilers are playful and goofy. They're fantastic with children, often acting as a watchful, affectionate babysitter. While they might look like alert protectors, Rottweilers are actually affectionate dogs who thrive on human connection.

2. Doberman Pinscher

In the late 1800s, Karl Dobermann developed these fast dogs as the perfect guardians. Now, Dobermans crave attention and love to snuggle. That's how they earned them the nickname "Velcro dogs." Guarding comes naturally to them, but attacking is never their first choice.

3. Bullmastiff

Weighing up to 130 pounds, Bullmastiffs rely on their imposing presence rather than force to deter intruders. Around their families, they're incredibly loving. Moreover, their temperament is a perfect mix of protector and loyal friend, making them a wonderful addition to any home.

4. American Pit Bull Terrier

The American Pit Bull Terrier faces unfair stereotypes due to its muscular build and strong jawline, but those who know the breed understand they're affectionate. This breed is particularly great with children, and that's what led to their nickname, "nanny dogs," in the early 20th century.

5. Great Dane

Nicknamed the "Apollo of Dogs" for their size, Great Danes have a history that dates back to ancient Egypt, where similar dogs were depicted on artifacts. Interestingly, Great Danes were originally bred as boar hunters, but over time, their role shifted to being noble companions.

6. Staffordshire Bull Terrier

What sets Staffies apart is their intelligence and determination. They are quick learners who love challenges, from mastering new tricks to engaging in agility sports. Their strong bond with their families makes them loyal protectors. However, aggression isn't in their nature when raised with care.

9. Boxer

It seems like Boxers have a spring in their step when they move. Moreover, their trademark "Boxer wiggle" is impossible to miss when they're excited, which is basically all the time. Beneath all that energy, though, is a big-hearted protector who would do anything for their family.
